SPECIEUROPE

Source profiles for Europe database

How to Contribute

What is needed?

SPECIEUROPE is an asset for the community of experts working on source apportionment that will contribute to achieve better definition of sources and therefore more reliable source attribution. The development of SPECIEUROPE requires the support of all the European experts working in the field. For that reason, contribution of source profile data is very much welcomed and will be acknowledged in the dedicated page of the website.
PM Source Profiles (or fingerprints) needed are the average relative chemical composition of the PM deriving from a pollution source, expressed as the ratio between the mass of every species to the total PM mass. The profiles can be 'O' original , 'C' composite , 'D' derived (as form PMF outputs), 'S' simplified (as in SPECIATE) or 'T' theoretical.

Formatting your data

Both data and metadata are needed:

1 General metadata: Reference (with doi), country, place, test year, lat., lon., sampling method description and details on uncertainty calculation and profile type ('O', 'C', 'D' or 'T'),
2 Profile metadata: Name, original name in the reference document, PM size, total PM, number of samples, other general notes,
3 Profiles data possibly provided as a comma separated text as described below:

A the profile number (just put a sequential number),
B the specie identification number (ID) as reported in this table (some species have different code for the ions), and must be unique in the profile,
C the relative mass, see the technical note for the significant digits,
D the relative uncertainty, see the technical note for its derivation,
E the analytical method used to measure the given specie, as coded in table.

Rules:

1 If more than one profile is available, they can be appended one after the other with an increased sequential number in the first column,
2 If an entry is missing, just leave the corresponding cell empty,
3 If an entry is below detection limit, input the value 1E-15;
